Development Of street lighting system with vehicular sensing at low light intensity

Abstract:
A new method is proposed here for the automation of the street lighting system using the wireless ZigBee module. This module provides a perfect scheme for the operation of alternate street lighting system that is both automatic and manual. LDR and IR sensor are the backbone of this project. The LDR Sensors are used here to detect the day and night and the sensors to detect any obstacle (vehicle/mobile) passing by and accordingly the lights will be switched on and off. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) is created on MATLAB and can be used to manually operate the lights from the base station. Considerable amount of energy will be saved by the application of this module. A prototype was developed based upon this idea

Intelligent Agriculture Greenhouse Environment Monitoring System Based on IOT Technology

Abstract:
In recent years, greenhouse technology in agriculture is to automation, information technology direction with the IOT (Internet of Things) technology rapid development and wide application. This paper takes CC2530 chip as the core, presents the design and implementation of agriculture Greenhouse Environment monitoring system based on ZigBee technology, the wireless sensor and control nodes takes CC2530F256 as core to control the environment data. This system is made up of front-end data acquisition, data processing, data transmission and data reception. The ambient temperature is real-time processed by the temperature sensor of data terminal node. Processed data is send to the intermediate node through a wireless network. Intermediate node aggregates all data, and then sends the data to the PC through a serial port, at the same time, staff may view, analysis and storage the data by the PC that provide real-time data for agricultural greenhouse, fans and other temperature control equipment, and achieve automatic temperature control.

Smart home system architecture for real-time and low standby power

Abstract:
In this paper, we proposed smart home system architecture that has the ZigBee coordinator and home gateway, which communicate with sensors and appliances and have low standby power consumption. We analyzed the standby power of coordinators and a home gateway in the proposed system.

Remote monitoring system with multi sensors on mobile communication for rescue operations

Abstract:
When wireless sensor networks are adapted to mobile units, flexible and dynamic network topology should be realized because they are generally used to measure state quantity of fixed objects. ZigBee systems can be used to construct dynamic networks because they support multi-hop communication. A remote monitoring system using ZigBee devices has been developed to support the rescue operations in actual disaster areas or special places outside the scope of mobile phones. The system can trace rescue members' actions and locations by combining some sensors such as IMU, GPS, and barometer, in order to help every member to communicate and enhance the security and work efficiency of rescue teams' performances.

A real-time ambient air quality monitoring wireless sensor network for schools in smart cities

Abstract:
Monitoring ambient (outdoor) air quality in school surroundings is of great importance for the health of school children. To help schools in smart cities to assess whether ambient air exposure is unhealthy for school children, in this paper, we present a low-cost solar-powered air quality monitoring system based on ZigBee wireless network system technology. The solar powered network sensor nodes can be deployed by schools to collect and report real-time data on carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), dust particles, temperature, and relative humidity. The proposed system allows schools to monitor air quality conditions on a desktop/laptop computer through an application designed using LabVIEW and provides an alert if the air quality characteristics exceed acceptable levels. The sensor network was successfully tested at the Singapore campus of the University of Newcastle, Australia. The experimental results obtained demonstrate that the sensor network can provide high-quality air quality measurements over a wide range of CO, NO2 and dust concentrations

Abstract:
The proposed design is the work presented in this report explores wireless smart metering system that fully realizes the potential of smart grid. Real time monitoring of the electricity parameters like voltage, current, real and reactive power of the significant devices in a home is important for the control and optimization of the energy usage of those devices. However by optimizing the time of usage of heavy load devices, it is possible to make the electricity generation, transmission and distribution more stable and economically profitable. Granular control over the user devices is required to obtain this optimization goal. Wireless metering can enable the user as well as the utility to obtain that necessary control by providing real time data reading and by facilitating command and control. Smart power meter based on ZigBee communication has been proposed in for the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) of smart grid.

Air pollution monitoring system using LabVIEW

Abstract:
Air pollution is one the most crucial factors affecting life and health of human, animals and plants. In this paper, a wireless solution is proposed for monitoring the level of hydrogen sulfide gas (H2S). The proposed system enables measurement of the levels of H2S, temperature, and humidity. The software part of the project has been developed under Lab VIEW environment. The experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of our project in terms of fast detection and real time response.

The implementation of wireless sensor and control system in greenhouse based on ZigBee

Zigbee is widely used in WSN because of its low power consumption and high reliability. A control and information collection system based on ZigBee is designed in this paper. It can be visit anywhere via gateway. A testbed is set up and its transmission performance is tested. Then an improvement is made on environment information collection cycle to meet the requirement of energy saving.

Zigbee Based Centralised Patient Monitoring System

Abstract:
Centralised patient monitoring systems are in huge demand as they not only reduce the labour work and cost but also the time of the clinical hospitals. Earlier wired communication was used but now Zigbee which is a wireless mesh network is preferred as it reduces the cost. Zigbee is also preferred over Bluetooth and infrared wireless communication because it is energy efficient, has low cost and long distance range (several miles). In this paper we proposed wireless transmission of data between a patient and centralised unit using Zigbee module. The paper is divided into two sections. First is patient monitoring system for multiple patients and second is the centralised patient monitoring system. These two systems are communicating using wireless transmission technology i.e. Zigbee. In the first section we have patient monitoring of multiple patients. Each patient's multiple physiological parameters like ECG, temperature, heartbeat are measured at their respective unit. If any physiological parameter value exceeds the threshold value, emergency alarm and LED blinks at each patient unit. This allows a doctor to read various physiological parameters of a patient in real time. The values are displayed on the LCD at each patient unit. Similarly multiple patients multiple physiological parameters are being measured using particular sensors and multiple patient's patient monitoring system is made. In the second section centralised patient monitoring system is made in which all multiple patients multiple parameters are displayed on a central monitor using MATLAB. ECG graph is also displayed on the central monitor using MATLAB software. The central LCD also displays parameters like heartbeat and temperature. The module is less expensive, consumes low power and has good range.

Solution of Home Security Based on ARM and ZigBee

Abstract:
The application of the Internet of things(IoT) speeds up the realization of intelligent home security. In this paper, solution of Home security based on ARM and ZigBee is proposed. Using S3C2440 as the central controller, GPRS MC39i constitute SMS sending terminal, as well as CC2430 forms the ZigBee network module. By real-time monitoring to multiple sensors through ZigBee, when any one of the sensor's value exceeds the preset threshold, it automatically sends the warnings to the set target. This scheme's degree of intelligence and digitization is high, it has a strong practical value.

An Emergency Care System Using RFID and Zigbee Techniques

Abstract:
In this study a RFID technology to assist medical care personnel with ward round and nursing is proposed to increase the management efficiency and reduce the human caused careless mistakes. We use the RFID tag, ZigBee technology, and long-range wireless communication to build an emergency care system. The designed model consists of an active RFID tag, an active RFID-ZigBee positioning reader (including Router) and wireless network module. Because using wireless transmission, this architecture does not require any communication cable. When the router is placed in the corresponding position, the patient can be located, making this construction relatively simple.

Intrusion Detection and Prevention for ZigBee-Based Home Area Networks in Smart Grids

Abstract:
In this paper we present a novel intrusion detection and prevention system for ZigBee-based home area networks in smart grids, HANIDPS. HANIDPS employs a model-based intrusion detection mechanism as well as a machine learningbased intrusion prevention system to protect the network against a wide range of attack types. The detection module extracts network features and analyzes them to decide whether the network is in a normal state. We use SEP 2.0 specification as well as IEEE 802.15.4 standard to precisely characterize the expected normal behavior. A set of defensive actions are defined for the prevention system which are effective in stopping various attack types. HANIDPS uses Q-learning and through interactions with environment learns the best strategy against an attack. Use of model based approach for intrusion detection and dynamic learning for intrusion prevention, as well as employment of effective mechanisms to stop the attacks, provide a high performance for HANIDPS without the need for prior knowledge of the attacks. Soundness of the proposed method is evaluated through extensive analysis and experiments.

Intelligent DC power monitoring system and sensor network based on ZigBee-equipped smart sockets

Abstract:
To fit the development trend of future DC micro-grids, an intelligent DC power monitoring system and sensor network is proposed in this paper for smart homes. The system is mainly composed of DC smart socket, sensors, home gateway, cloud sever and remote monitor device. According to Internet of things (IoT), all devices are connected through wireless protocols, such as Zigbee, WiFi and 3G/4G mobile communications, to maximize the flexibility and ease the installation for users. All power consumption, real-time video streaming and environment sensing can be accessed remotely via smart phones, pads or computers to ensure the most security and comfortability for user homes. Alarms will be issued for any irregular condition sensed. The detail report and statistics for home appliances are also provided to help users reschedule the appliance usage to lower the electricity bills. The proposed system is realized with free open source software to minimize the overall cost.

The urban road dust monitoring system based on ZigBee

Abstract:
With the constantly appearance of fog haze weather, people pay more and more attention on the air quality. In this paper, the inhalable particles includes pm1.0, pm2.5, pm10 in the urban road dust will be detected. Adopting akala G1 dust concentration sensor, MSP430F149 as main control chip and ZigBee technology composed of the urban road dust monitoring system. Using ceramic piezoelectric power generation technologies to the system power supply, avoid the hazards of waste batteries caused on the environment. The system is low cost, easy to maintain, particulate matter on both sides of the road will be monitored in real-time to reduce the unnecessary harm the particulate matter caused on the people passing by, at the same time providing more basis for the urban of dust control.

Design of smart home control system by Internet of Things based on ZigBee

Abstract:
Smart home is an important applicable field of Internet of Things. In line with the applicable demands and features of smart home, a design of smart home control system by Internet of Things based on ZigBee has been advanced in this paper. In the proposed system, LM3S8962 32-bit processor is used as the main controller to complete the design of embedded WEB server. Meanwhile, a number of things have adopted in the program design, such as RTX operating system in RL-ARM real time database, Common Gateway Interface function and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. A variety of tasks of the system function module can be completed by RTX operating system. The information exchange between the client side and the server side can be realized by Common Gateway Interface technology. Ethernet communication can be implemented by Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. What's more, ZigBee wireless communication module is applied for the local communication, and it can send and receive the transmission information between the main controller and the various home appliances. The experimental results show that remote monitoring appliance can be realized. And the proposed smart home control system is simple and feasible, which can be widely used in smart home remote monitoring.

Solar street lamp system using GPRS and ZIGBEE technology

Abstract:
The solar street lamp system using GPRS and ZIGBEE technology is designed in this paper. The street lamp management system is composed of GPRS wireless mobile network and ZIGBEE short-distance wireless network. Users can view the real-time parameters of street lamps on the computer (or mobile phone), and at the same time, can also set up some working parameters (e.g., working mode, voltage of turning on the light, load current, etc.) through the computer (or mobile phone). This streetlight system realizes automatic monitoring and control of various parameters of street lamps. It has the advantages of remote real-time monitoring, ease of maintenance, and so on. It will have broad prospects for potential applications and commercial markets.

Wearable Device For Hearing Impaired Individuals Using ZigBee Protocol

Abstract:
Low cost wearable devices for the physically impaired are being developed extensively to enable them to lead a normal life. This paper aims at developing a low cost wearable device for the hearing-impaired. The paper illustrates a device that uses an Arduino, a personal area network with ZigBee nodes and a smartphone to do the processing of speech. Since smartphones are used for speech processing, the system is not speaker dependent. With the help of a smartphone, speech is converted to text and is sent to a base station node which is paired to the smartphone using Bluetooth. Since 8 devices can be paired at once using Bluetooth, group conversations are also made possible for the hearing-impaired. The received text is immediately sent to the node which is in the wearable device and is displayed on an LCD display. We use the sense of vision to give the hearingimpaired a pragmatic sense of hearing.

Efficient automatic irrigation system using ZigBee

Abstract:
Agriculture is the significant one for Indian economy. In order to improve the standard of agriculture a new technology has been developed in terms of automatic irrigation system for better and advance agriculture system. The main reason for the advancement in the agriculture irrigation process is for farmer's convenient need and to reduce the water energy source. Earlier the irrigation system was done by the use of mobile alerts and PC, where most of the farmers are illiterate and incapable of understanding the alert messages that are sent by the earlier system. Thus to overcome this problem keypad is used in terms that the reference value of crops are loaded in microcontroller and acts accordingly. Hence the system can be operated without the knowledge of farmer and parameter level can be changed for different purpose. This process is accomplished by the ZigBee technology for communication purpose. Thus the farmers are helped out in well manner by available technology.

Energy-efficient solution for vehicle prioritisation employing ZigBee V2I communications

Abstract:
The paper presents a start-up study and tests regarding the possibility of employing ZigBee communications for vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications. Such communications require less energy consumption, compared to other technologies and are recommended for dense urban areas, where the density of infrastructure equipment reaches higher levels and involves significant power consumption. A prototype for vehicle identification using ZigBee protocol is presented as a solution to test V2I communications in laboratory conditions.

Gesture control of ZigBee connected smart home Internet of Things

Abstract:
The Internet of Things (IOT) are systems where Internet-enabled devices comprising sensors and actuators in the physical world can interact with the environment are connected to the Internet for monitoring and control of the “things” applying Internet protocols and web services. The growth of the IoT has influence on everyone and everything, and is expected to make great differences in the next decades. In this paper an approach of gesture control of IoT is proposed. A prototype system based on an ARM Cortex-A8 processor under embedded Linux operating system has been developed for performance study and measurement on a real-time test set-up. Test results show that the system is capable of recognizing hand gestures on real-time frame for controlling ZigBee-enabled smart home devices functioning as Internet of Things

Research on Wireless and Adaptive Greenhouses Monitoring System Based on ZigBee Technology

Abstract:
According to siphonic bedpan's work principle, siphonic bedpan with variational section flow channel is put forwards into application in this paper. Structure design optimization of siphonic bedpan's flow channel is discussed. Based on making use of Pro/E to conduct the parametrization modeling of the siphonic bedpan (the constant section bedpan and the variational section bedpan), and then adopt ADINA to simulate the flow field in the siphonic bedpan with not taking the filth into consideration. The calculation results of the numerical simulation demonstrate that variational section bedpan is better than the constant section bedpan in flushing and saving water. The results indicates the adoption of ADINA software to carry out sanitary implement's numerical simulation can improve the accuracy of the bedpan design and manufacturing consumedly, provides a theories analysis foundation for the engineering, design and application of bedpan.

Configurable ZigBee-based control system for people with multiple disabilities in smart homes

Abstract:
Nowadays, home appliances manufacturers are increasingly relying on wireless sensor network and single chip embedded technologies to build smart environment. Many existing systems are already in the market, however, they were designed without envisioning the need of residents with special needs. This work presents a framework that enables the integration and control of devices within a smart home environment for residents with disabilities. The framework supports the integration of multiple control devices for different residents with different disabilities. Moreover, the work addresses the safety of the users by providing warnings and notifications in case of an emergency. A prototype was designed, implemented and tested.

A ZigBee based energy efficient environmental monitoring alerting and controlling system

Abstract:
The usage of Wireless Sensor Networks has become essentially important in recent years because of their ability to manage real-time data for various novel services. In this paper a novel ZigBee based energy efficient environmental monitoring, alerting and controlling system for agriculture is designed and implemented. This system utilizes an ARM7 processor, various sensors and ZigBee communication module. Sensors gather various physical data from the field in real time and transmit it to the processor and to the end user via ZigBee communication. Then necessary actions are initiated to perform action on behalf of people to reduce or eliminate the need of human labor. A wireless camera is connected to the processor to monitor the activities in real time. The proposed system has been tested for a month and satisfactory results have been observed, which indicate that this system is very useful for greenhouse environment monitoring, alerting and controlling various physical parameters in the field.

ZIGBEE based monitoring theft detection and automatic electricity meter reading

Abstract:
Now-a-days electricity meter reading and billing is conducted manually by door-to-door system. This system, as observed requires a large amount of man power and is also the time & energy consumption. To overcome the limitations of this traditional system, proposal of a prototype module which includes advanced wireless technology called “ZIGBEE”. The proposed module helps to reduce the time delay, errors and theft of electricity. The ZigBee is preferred over other wireless technologies because it works in unlicensed frequency band, it does not requires high speed data rate, also this device is low powered and low cost. The microcontroller based system continuously monitors the reading and theft detection that can be seen on the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) display.

On the use of ZigBee technology for coal mine safety

Abstract:
Today, coal mines are very dangerous work places and accidents can still occur. In such situations, remote monitoring of the health conditions of miners can better aid search-and-rescue efforts after accidents. In this context, the use of wireless sensor networks can be highly advantageous. In this work, the development of a coal mine safety system based on ZigBee technology is described.

Remote monitoring system for distributed photovoltaic based on ZigBee

Abstract:
In distributed photovoltaic systems, solar panels are placed in adequate lighting place, for example civil roof, which leads to the difficulty of monitoring. In this paper, we present a monitoring system to observe the stability and performance of the photovoltaic by data analysis. For solar cells, there are some data collectors, which will be connected to specific ZigBee devices to transmit the monitoring data to web server. The collected data will be analyzed and presented by web server. Specific users can monitor the data on mobile phones and personal computers through data releasing on web page by Ajax and Html (the Hypertext Markup Language) technology. In the process, the open source Linux operating system has been selected as the development platform, on which the open source BOA is deployed as web server. In the process of data transmitting, a simple and effective data protocol is adopted to evaluate the system performance. Through the remote monitoring, a lot of human and material sources are saved. Experiments show that ZigBee networking is an ideal solution to distributed solar cells monitoring and the monitoring system runs effectively.

The Design of Building Fire Monitoring System Based on ZigBee-WiFi Networks

Abstract:
With the rapid development of wireless communication technology, people's life has undergone great changes. In recent years, the comfort and safety of the building environment have become a universal concern. However, building fire is the greatest threat to building safety. In consideration of the current issues on building security, the design applies the important part, the wireless sensor network technology to building fire safety monitoring system and establishes the wireless sensor network by using ZigBee technology and ZigBee-WiFi gateway which transforms ZigBee network into WiFi network, In addition, taking advantage of the ZigBee wireless sensor network locates a fire place so that the fire information is uploaded to the handheld terminal and the building security personnel work out the retreat and rescue plan in time. This paper provides a new solution for building fire monitoring system.

ZigBee transmission system for wearable ECG device based on compressed sensing

Abstract:
Electrocardiogram (ECG) measurement is an important part of wearable medical devices due to steady time of ECG signal acquisition and transmission through wireless system; therefore, reducing the amount of data transmission is very necessary. In this paper, the wearable medical devices ECG data processing based on compressive sensing theory is discussed. Based on the characteristics of ECG signal itself, the related operations with standard signal is proposed, so that the data can be compressed efficiently. The simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Small and medium range wireless electronic notice board using Bluetooth and ZigBee

Abstract:
When information exchange occurs between people via a network, then authentication and security of data have more priority. This paper introduces a low cost, handheld, wireless electronic notice board by using Atmel's ATmega32 microcontroller and different wireless technologies (Bluetooth and ZigBee) and their performance analysis based on the parameter such as range, BER (bit error rate), RSSI (Received signal strength indicator), signal attenuation and power consumption. The notice board receives serial data from wireless module receiver and displays it on the graphical liquid crystal display. We have realized a common communication receiver hardware for notice board having compatibility with both wireless modules i.e. Bluetooth and ZigBee. We used KS0108 based 128×64 graphical LCD as display element.

Design of SCADA based wireless monitoring and control system using ZigBee

Abstract:
Monitoring and control of critical parameters is of paramount importance for most of the industrial processes. But laying cables from various sensors and actuators to monitoring stations increases cost and complexity. This problem calls for wireless implementations for monitoring and control applications. This paper presents a low cost wireless temperature monitoring and control system based on ZigBee wireless communication protocol. The system uses Microchip's PIC18F458 microcontroller as the field unit and NI LabVIEW interface as the monitoring unit. It utilizes a precision temperature sensor IC, which being a low cost sensor provides a reliable output within its operating range. The system follows a request-response methodology, where the field unit responds to the requests made by the monitoring unit.

Interference-Mitigated ZigBee-Based Advanced Metering Infrastructure

Abstract:
An interference-mitigated ZigBee-based advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solution, namely IMM2ZM, has been developed for high-traffics smart metering (SM). The IMM2ZM incorporates multiradios multichannels network architecture and features an interference mitigation design by using multiobjective optimization. To evaluate the performance of the network due to interference, the channel-swapping time (Tcs) has been investigated. Analysis shows that when the sensitivity (PRχ) is less than -12 dBm, Tcs increases tremendously. Evaluation shows that there are significant improvements in the performance of the application-layer transmission rate (σ) and the average delay (D). The improvement figures are σ > ~300% and D > 70% in a 10-floor building, σ > ~280 % and D > 65% in a 20-floor building, and σ > ~270% and D > 56% in a 30-floor building. Further analysis reveals that IMM2ZM results in typically less than 0.43 s delay for a 30-floor building under interference. This performance fulfills the latency requirement of less than 0.5 s for SMs in the USA (Magazine of Department of Energy Communications, USA, 2010). The IMM2ZM provides a high-traffics interference-mitigated ZigBee AMI solution.

Design of a ZigBee based WSN with channel coding for energy and temperature monitoring

Abstract:
This paper has two objectives. First, to design and implement a prototype of WSN for monitoring power as well as temperature in buildings. Second, to evaluate the amount of improvement introduced to the ZigBee transceiver when channel-coding method is used. The results indicated that the use of ZigBee based WSN in electric power monitoring provides flexibility and helps in reducing power consumption. Furthermore, the simulation results show that using Convolutional Coding (CC) in ZigBee transceiver gives better performance compared to traditional ZigBee transceivers specially at CC of code rate 1/8.

A Novel Wireless Multifunctional Electronic Current Transformer based on ZigBee-based Communication

Abstract:
Overhead and underground power line monitoring is an essential infrastructure for advanced operation in the smart grid. Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are attractive to remote power line monitoring, due to their rare geography restrictions, simple engineering design, and flexible equipment expansion. Considering the ZigBee’s characteristic of low transmission rate, almost commercial sensors adopt the high-speed communication, such as Cellular and WiFi, to implement the real-time wireless monitoring. However, among all wireless technologies, ZigBee, characterizing high security, ultra-low power consumption, reliable network, low cost, and ease of design, is widely used in many industries. This paper proposes a new ZigBee-based communication for multifunctional electronic current transformers (ECTs), which are used in overhead and underground line monitoring. To tackle ZigBee’s low transmission rate, the proposed method involving a transmission strategy can make the ZigBee-based communication satisfy both measurable and protective purposes of multifunctional ECTs. Finally, the new ZigBee-based wireless communication is implemented and integrated with an ECT, which is based on the coreless Hall-effect current transformer (HCT), and the proposed ZigBee-based wireless multifunctional HCT is called ZiHCT. The measurement results show that the ZiHCT can achieve accuracy not only to Class 0.5 for measuring CTs, but also to Class 5P20 for protective CTs according to IEC standard 60044-8.

A Novel Efficient Design of Intelligent Street Lighting Monitoring System Using ZigBee Network

Abstract:
The proposed system can optimize the management and efficiency of street lighting systems. It uses ZigBee-based wireless devices. It also uses a sensor combination to control and guarantee the desired system parameters. A monitoring system based on the embedded Internet technology for street light is designed and implemented. The mode adopted in this monitoring system is the Browser/Server mode. The realization technologies of an embedded Web server are used. The results of system performance testing show that the system can meet most of the embedded Internet applications demands and the purposes of online access, control and management of the street lighting using a standard Web browser over the Internet.

Enabling IOT services using WIFI - ZigBee gateway for a home automation system

Abstract:
Home automation system is a process of automating or adapting to basic household activities like control of Lighting, Heating, Ventilation and Air condition (HVAC) appliances on user command. A dedicated hand held device is ideal in providing a user interface in a home automation system, due to their portability and their wide range of capabilities. The hand held device runs on Linux OS which is an open source platform and can work on limited memory communication between the appliances a home automation network through low power communication protocols such as ZigBee. With the recent increase in the use of internet and cheaper components, large number of Home automation system with IOT capabilities are in demand. Home automation system prototype includes a gateway with user interactions capabilities, this experiment demonstrates that the proposed gateway work efficiently by sending and receiving instructions from different protocols, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) allows user to interact with the ambient environment settings.

This paper introduces the basic structure and functions of the Intelligent Protection Center, and besides, it describes rapid reconstruction of power grid and rapid recovery of communication channel, both based on the Intelligent Protection Center. In this paper, we have compared the characteristics of various wireless communication modes and discussed unique ad vantages of ZigBee technology in reconstructing of power system after disaster. We intentionally proposed the rebuilding of the wireless channel based on the ZigBee technology for "information island" where there was not any circuitous channel around, and have carried out the simulation about this project.

Intelligent Street Lamp Energy Saving System Based on ZigBee

Abstract:
For intelligent street lamp control system in the presence of complex construction, more power consumption and low intelligence, this paper designed an intelligent street lamp controller achieved by ZigBee network. It use the Doppler detector to obtain the speed of the vehicle and pedestrian, and thus control the lights switch. For the phenomenon of some street lamp appeared to be an isolated during the wireless communication, this paper also proposes an isolated nodes relief algorithm based on node transfer. The result is verified by Mat lab simulation. Through the control and regulation to LED lights, both ensure traffic safety and save manpower and energy.

Remote air conditioning control system based on ZigBee Wireless Sensor Network for building

Abstract:
We design and develop an intelligent remote air conditioning control system for building based on a Wireless Sensor/Actuator Network (WSN) that automatically adjusts to the comfort level of the room occupants. The system connectivity is based on ZigBee technology to do away with the conventional wiring and intrusive installation. The architecture is designed with the scalability and flexibility in mind by employing message oriented middleware. Consequently, all the components are decoupled from each other such that it is easy for any future adjustment, whether it is to replace, to remove, or to add components. Finally, we set up a testbed and the experiment results show that the system responds to the user's commands with little to almost no delay and with satisfactory performance.

Design and simulation of state-of-art ZigBee transmitter for IoT wireless devices

Abstract:
The rapid development in wireless networking has been witnessed in past several years, which aimed on high speed and long range applications. The increasing demand for low data and low power networking led to the development of ZigBee technology. This technology was developed for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN), directed at control and military applications, where low cost, low data rate, and more battery life were main requirements. ZigBee is a standard, which defines set of communication protocols. ZigBee based devices operate in 868 MHz, 915 MHz and 2.4 GHz frequency bands. It has maximum data rate of 250K bits per second. This paper explores the architectural blocks of digital ZigBee transmitter. The advancement in VLSI technology led to the development of more efficient, accurate, small, and fast design. ZigBee has potential application in Internet of Things (IoT), because of the fact that it is a low power and low data rate device. The main focus of the project is to design a ZigBee transmitter using Verilog for IoT applications. A basic digital ZigBee transmitter consists of cyclic redundancy check, Bit-to-Symbol block, Symbol-to-Chip block, and a Modulator. This paper presents digital design and Verilog-HDL simulation of the Cyclic Redundancy Check and Bit-to-Symbol block of the ZigBee transmitter.

A ZigBee-based industrial WLAN

Abstract:
This paper evaluates the performance of an industrial Wireless Networked Control System (WNCS). The proposed WNCS utilizes the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol (which ZigBee is based on) without modifications as an alternative that is low cost and low power compared to other wireless technologies. OMNeT++ simulations are used to measure the end-to-end delay and packet loss from the sensors to the controller and from the controller to the actuators. It is demonstrated that the measured delay, including all types of transmission, encapsulation, de-capsulation, queuing and propagation, meet real-time control network requirements while guaranteeing correct packet reception with no packet loss. Moreover, the interference tolerance of the proposed WNCS was quantified. All results presented in this study were based on a 95% confidence analysis.

A novel Zigbee-based data acquisition system for distributed photovoltaic

Abstract:
Distributed photovoltaic (PV) power plant monitoring is one of the crucial aspects for energy forecasting and demand management in the future smart grid (SG) through establishing low-powered communication technology. In this paper, Zigbee wireless technology is considered for AC electrical parameters' monitoring of the distributed PV plant located at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). For this consideration, relevant measurement circuits, Arduino UNO embedded board, and Zigbee radio are interfaced to create a wireless (WS)-node for installing in the PV inverter. In addition, a LabVIEW program is implemented and linked to Microsoft Access Database (MS Access DB) at the control center server system for the Zigbee-based wireless data acquisition, storage, and monitoring. The obtained data from the developed system are also validated with the actual PV generation. The results are found comparable and it also reveals that low-powered Zigbee is ideal for monitoring the distributed PV generation where the data delivery requirement is not urgent.

A security personnel information collection system based on ZigBee wireless ad-hoc network

Abstract:
Personnel security information collection system is based on wireless ad hoc networks, electronic devices, wireless communications and GPS positioning technology. The system employs smart wristbands terminal to gather security information periodically via wireless communication base station. The collected information is transmitted to portable terminal with a self-designed embedded application. With mapping coordinates, application in the terminal can display all available safety information and within-reach smart bracelet. Thus the system is more convenient for managers and users. In addition, the system is speedy and smart which is suitable for a multitude of life scenes. The smart hand ring terminals and radio base station are connected through self ZigBee networking, while the information between wireless communication base station and portable applications are transmitted by Bluetooth terminal. The system employs Bluetooth and ZigBee module, where the two parts complement each other. Also, the system takes advantage of ZigBee protocol by flexible networking and relatively low power consumption and Bluetooth transmission by high bandwidth.

A Novel Coal Mine Security Monitoring System Based on ZigBee

Abstract:
The paper puts forward a novel coal mine management system to solve the real-time monitoring and highly efficient rescue problems of underground work platforms. The scheme of ZigBee wireless sensor network combined with Controller Area Network (CAN) bus is adopted in this system. ZigBee substation is set at proper intervals in mine laneways to acquire Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) position and gas thickness. And then the information is packed and uploaded to monitoring center by CAN bus. At last it could be processed, saved and displayed in mode of chart show. The system has the functions of miner orientation, attendance management and security monitoring. It can be replanted in other application domains.

Design and Implementation of Household Gas Monitoring System Based on Zigbee + GPRS Communication

A design scheme of gas monitoring system based on Zigbee + GPRS is presented in this paper. The gas data is collected from the gas sensor and it uploads to the ARM gateway using WSN technology Zigbee. It can be intelligently control of the local gas valve, exhaust fan, alarm lights and windows through the WSN after data analysis, then it solves the problem caused by the gas in time. At the same time, It reminds the users to remotely control of the household gas and control system after getting alarm by GPRS technology in time. With Its characteristic of intelligent, remote control, easy installation, low cost and security, this scheme is a good option for modern smart home.

Design WSN node for protection of forest trees against poaching based on ZigBee

Abstract:
Smuggling/theft of most important trees such as sandal wood in forests, poses a serious threat to forest resources, causes significant economic damage and ultimately has quite a devastating effect on the environment all over the world. This paper propose a microcontroller based anti poaching system employing WSN technology, which is capable of detecting theft by monitoring the vibrations produced by the cutting of trees/branches using a 3 axis MEMS accelerometer. A low power MSP430F5529 microcontroller is used along with Xbee RF modules based on IEEE 802.15.4 Zigbee standards to communicate to a central server from a remote place. WSN is widely used technology in remote monitoring applications. The embedded system architecture and the hardware/software designs are described in detail. Vibration data collected by various tests on wood and simulated using Labview.

Design of intelligent infrared vehicle detect system based on ZigBee

Abstract:
In recent years, with the development of China's economy and the urban vehicles increased greatly, the intelligent parking system is developing rapidly all over the country. As the important part of an intelligent parking system, vehicles and the traffic volume detection technology is also in continuous developing. The practical and feasible infrared detection technology has been widely used in traffic volume detection. The article presents a ZigBee-based infrared vehicle detect method, which can scan vehicles synchronously by installing infrared transmitting tube and receiving tube separately on each side of the road. When a car pass through the detection area, the detector can accurately and quickly judge the existence of the vehicles and record the information for traffic volume detection. According to the counts of sensors being intercepted, the location of the car and the car's other information such as the shape, height etc. can be used to determine the car's model, and then may give out corresponding control. In addition, the detect system first use ZigBee wireless network, which has advantages of low power consumption, low cost, low complexity and high efficiency. On the other side we can make the detector as a screen, and then make some modification, the system's function can be more diverse, such as safety light curtain, anti-theft devices, etc. Combining with software programming, the system can detect more information, and can be reasonable optimized, especially for data processing and analysis. This detection system has wide range of uses, not only can be used in the detection of vehicle parking lot to improve the efficiency of the yard management, and also be used to detect road traffic and others, even in other areas, such as security, scientific research, mechanical control and the emerging field of intelligent building systems. With its simple structure, low cost and high stability advantages, the system has a good application prospect and developing potential.

ZigBee based network architecture for animal health monitoring

Wireless Sensor Network is collection of sensor nodes which consist of sensing device, storage device, processing unit and antenna. These nodes may be placed in difficult physical environment for sensing an event, collecting data, processing data and forwarding it using wireless network to the sink, where data can be stored, processed and analyzed. Animal monitoring, Building monitoring and other are some application area of WSN. The sensor node requires enough battery power to collect and communicate data with other network device/s. WSN has several constrains, one of them is low battery power. It thus becomes important to conserve energy of a node in WSN. Due to hardware limitation for efficient energy consumption, researchers are required to work on mechanisms to reduce the energy consumption by sensor nodes. A Review on ZigBee Security Enhancement in Smart Home Environment

Abstract:
M2M is an approach where devices such as sensors and actuators connected with each other or with a computer system for data analysis for producing immediate action. This approach is gaining popularity among consumers and service providers to improve the lives of people. Among the most popular M2M vertical applications today is the Smart Home application. This application was built by several key components which include private local communications network. Wireless Sensor Network or WSN for short is an example of private communication network that is widely discussed these days due to its characteristics of low power, low cost and scalable. In this paper, we focus on ZigBee, a WSN that has received increasing attention from the industry. Low computing power of the ZigBee's sensor node is causing low endurance against network security attacks, thus providing solutions to all types of network security attacks which are likely to cause significant overhead. Hence, it is vital to properly rank security attacks by evaluating their severity and selecting appropriate countermeasures. In this paper, we provide a review on ZigBee networks technology and security requirements which are already embedded within the protocol. We additionally provide the essential data on the different threats and attacks in ZigBee networks technology. Finally, we investigate the three approaches used by different researchers to enhance the resilience of ZigBee networks in handling network attacks. It is believed that the information presented in this paper would benefit other researchers in enhancing the security level of ZigBee networks especially in supporting Smart Home application

Coexistence of ZigBee-Based WBAN and WiFi for Health Telemonitoring Systems

Abstract:
The development of telemonitoring via wireless body area networks (WBANs) is an evolving direction in personalized medicine and home-based mobile health. A WBAN consists of small, intelligent medical sensors which collect physiological parameters such as electrocardiogram, electroencephalography, and blood pressure. The recorded physiological signals are sent to a coordinator via wireless technologies, and are then transmitted to a healthcare monitoring center. One of the most widely used wireless technologies in WBANs is ZigBee because it is targeted at applications that require a low data rate and long battery life. However, ZigBee-based WBANs face severe interference problems in the presence of WiFi networks. This problem is caused by the fact that most ZigBee channels overlap with WiFi channels, severely affecting the ability of healthcare monitoring systems to guarantee reliable delivery of physiological signals. To solve this problem, we have developed an algorithm that controls the load in WiFi networks to guarantee the delay requirement for physiological signals, especially for emergency messages, in environments with coexistence of ZigBee-based WBAN and WiFi. Since WiFi applications generate traffic with different delay requirements, we focus only on WiFi traffic that does not have stringent timing requirements. In this paper, therefore, we propose an adaptive load control algorithm for ZigBee-based WBAN/WiFi coexistence environments, with the aim of guaranteeing that the delay experienced by ZigBee sensors does not exceed a maximally tolerable period of time. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm guarantees the delay performance of ZigBee-based WBANs by mitigating the effects of WiFi interference in various scenarios.

ZigBee based wireless temperature monitoring system for shrimp farm

Abstract:
This paper proposes a design and implementation of wireless temperature monitoring system for shrimp farm based on ZigBee technology. The proposed system consists of three wire resistance temperature device (RTD) type PT-100, Current source circuit, XBee Pro module, 2.4 GHz antenna with gain 5dBi, Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller board and LabVIEW program for monitoring and control system. Experimental results with standard temperature bath show that the proposed system can monitor temperature with satisfied data. The maximum error of temperature is about 0.25 percents. The maximum range of system is about 500 meters.

Development of ZigBee Triaxial Accelerometer Based Human Activity Recognition System

Abstract:
Human activity is an important context in ubiquitous computing. This paper presents the hardware and software design and development of a low-cost, wearable and IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee compliant mote with triaxial accelerometer, Acc-Triax for the monitoring of human physical activities and leg postures. Acc-Triax which is placed in trouser pocket does processing, feature extraction and classification of sitting, standing and walking activities. Customized decision tree is programmed inside the module to classify the activities. 99% accuracy was obtained for sitting, standing and walking activities. In addition to these activities, our algorithm recognizes 11 postures of leg in sitting and standing positions. The activities and leg postures are transmitted wirelessly through ZigBee to the PC/basestation. This system can be used in monitoring of people's activities of daily living (ADL) in an indoor environment. Physical ergonomics of the people may also be monitored from the recognized leg postures.

Study on farmland irrigation remote monitoring system based on ZigBee

Currently, automation technology has got great development. However, the farmland irrigation in our country still adopts the extensive manual operation mode which will result in wasting of water resource and human resource. According to statistics, use of irrigation water was only 45% in China. This paper mainly adopts ZigBee and configuration technology to design a remote irrigation control system. The system of acquisition node is powered by solar energy while the coordinator is powered by AC 220V. After the test in the test farmland, it can accurately collect the soil temperature, humidity, and air temperature and humidity. Water pump operation is accurate and solar power is stable and reliable. System test runs without any fault.

Remote farm environment monitoring system based on embedded system and ZigBee technology

Abstract:
Nowadays aquaculture industry requires the real-time control on farm environmental parameters such as humidity, temperature and illumination intensity. This paper presented a remote system for farm environment monitoring which uses ZigBee technology, embedded system and network database. Except obtaining the monitoring function on farm humidity, temperature, light intensity and data query, the system also provides real-time warning for staff through setting the upper and lower limit value of various parameters, which is convenient for farm staff to implement the on-site or remote control on environmental parameters. The test result shows that our proposed system can obtain a cost-effective monitoring solution for farmers with perfect and stable performance.

High power solar street lamps controller design based on ZigBee

Abstract:
Solar street lamps system combined with Internet of Things technologies, which can conveniently monitor the operating state of the whole street lamp system. According to the demand, we can set the operational parameters of single or multiple solar street lamps. Street lamp control system parameters can be transmitted to the cloud server through the INTERNET or GPRS. And it also has important reference value to a region of solar power generation technology research. High-power solar street lamps controller with ZigBee is the core component of the system implementation. It requires a solar cell battery charging management, high power LED street light source driver, the form of ZigBee network accomplishment and data transmission, and various protective functions.

Fire detection system with indoor localization using ZigBee based wireless sensor network

Fire detection and protection are major problems in factories. A closely related problem is to localize fire sources to effectively extinguish those. In this paper we presented development of a moderate cost wireless sensor network based fire detection system with indoor localization capability. In Bangladesh, where large numbers of garment factories are located suffers fire incidents every year. The aim of our work was to develop fire detection system that could help the garment owners to install reliable fire detection systems with localizing capability within a relatively lower cost. As such, we have used open source hardware and software tools to develop our system and documented our approach well, so that it can be replicated anywhere.

An approach to wireless sensor network design in home environment using ZigBee protocol

Abstract:
Although wireless sensor networks (WSN) are mainly designed for gathering information and measuring environmental parameters, they can be effectively used to control and manage the electrical devices in the house. Thus, they become part of an intelligent and autonomous environments that can take part of the obligation of the tenant in the house. By combining the WSN with other networks such as the Internet or mobile phone network, ZigBee networks receive full functionality and the ability of remote monitoring and control. This paper describes an example of the design of wireless networks with Xbee module and its application in home use. The achieved tasks of the network that was implemented through this paper are: measuring the temperature of home area, automatic and manual control of individual actuator nodes and ZigBee network connectivity with other networks, storage and graphical representation of measured values.

Lighting control design and development for a ZigBee network with a Web server

Abstract:
Competitive solutions to the growing demand for home automation will most likely include the use of low cost components, open source and open hardware. Using the ZigBee protocol, a low cost lighting control actuator was developed that was battery efficient and easy to use in a home automation system environment. Raspberry Pi was used to house a Web server, which provided the user an adaptive Web application to access the lighting actuator control. XBee modules were chosen for their small size, low energy consumption and the large amount of documentation that exists in regard to its use. Considering the worst-case scenario, the lighting control actuator was designed so if its battery runs out of power or the ZigBee network fails, it can work as a normal light switch.

A low consumption real time environmental monitoring system for smart cities based on ZigBee

Abstract:
Nowadays, there is an increasing interest in wireless sensor networks (WSN) for environmental monitoring systems because it can be used to improve the quality of life and living conditions are becoming a major concern to people. This paper describes the design and development of a real time monitoring system based on ZigBee WSN characterized by a lower energy consumption, low cost, reduced dimensions and fast adaptation to the network tree topology. The developed system encompasses an optimized sensing process about environmental parameters, low rate transmission from sensor nodes to the gateway, packet parsing and data storing in a remote database and real time visualization through a web server. A monitoring system integrating the outlined system has been deployed and tested for monitoring the level of dust particles in the air, acoustic levels in different places of a city, ambient temperature and relative humidity. A calibration process of a low cost audio sensor was performed to measure the acoustic level from different noise sources, hence, it is not necessary to use an expensive sound level meter at each node. Furthermore, experimental results show autonomy nodes can be about three months

Real-Time Implementation of Low Cost ZigBee Based Motion Detection System

Abstract:
Motion detection is a fundamental process that essentially detects a change in the position of an object with respect to its surrounding environment. It is highly demanding in various applications such as health care, defense and surveillance. The existing solutions for motion detection in indoor application are complex and expensive as it requires high end cameras and sensors. Hence, the objective of this paper is to provide an alternative cost effective solution. In the proposed motion detection system, Passive Infra Red (PIR) sensors are used to detect the presence of motion. The control unit of the PIR sensor transmits the trigger interrupt to the control unit of the camera via ZigBee communication. The rotational element present in the camera control unit rotates the camera in line of sight with the PIR sensor. The detected motion is then captured by the camera sensor and stored in Raspberry Pi, a microcontroller, which is then wirelessly transmitted to the receiver for further processing. The proposed motion detection system has been developed and validated in real time. It is observed that the performance of the developed system in terms of delay and QoS are acceptable for single event detection. However the proposed system can be extended for detection of multiple events.

WSN system using Raspberry Pi & zigbee for environmental monitoring applications

Abstract:
With over a decade of intensive research and development, wireless sensor network (WSN) technology has been emerging as a feasible solution to many innovative applications. In this paper, we describe a wireless sensor network system that we have developed using open-source hardware platforms, Raspberry Pi and zigbee. The system is low-cost, low power consuming and highly scalable both in terms of the type of sensors and the number of sensor nodes, which makes it well suited for a wide variety of applications related to environmental monitoring. Raspberry Pi is cheap, flexible, fully customizable and programmable small computer embedded linux board and abilities of its usage as WSN node and sensor node. Raspberry Pi works as a base station which connects the sensor nodes via zigbee protocol in the wireless sensor network and collects sensors data from different sensors, and supply multi-clients services including data display. The client can visit the base station remotely via (website) Ethernet or command console.

Combined Zigbee & GSM approach for AMR

Today's increased use of nonlinear loads injects voltage and current harmonics in Electrical Distribution Networks and creates new problems of Power Quality in the power System. Conventional power systems are designed to operate on sinusoidal power supply. Electric utilities strive to supply consumers with reliable & pure sinusoidal electric power that does not represent a damaging threat to their equipment. In the restructured power system, prices of the power are associated to power Quality. Hence it is very important to monitor and ensure Power Quality. Harmonics is the major issue in this context. This paper presents an innovative way of real time harmonic measurement using ADE 7880 and its assessment with automatic meter reading (AMR) on smart phone. During preparation of this paper fifty sight visits are done covering the non-linear loads like IT Industries, Steel Industries, Paper Industries, workshops etc. It is observed that the current harmonics generated are beyond the tolerable limits. Readings are taken at consumer end with the help of standard power analyzer for a period of 24 hrs. Sample of the readings are considered for analysis purpose. Further it is also observed that many literatures are available in the area of Harmonic measurement but they do not have the capacity to identify the limits of harmonics as per the standards used like IEC 61000-2-2 or IEEE 519-1996 or EN 50160. In this paper GUI is developed in java to assess the harmonics and identify the harmonic presence with specific color codes. The solution will display the abnormal harmonics in red color and normal below the threshold value by the green color. Through this color coding technique an unskilled worker can easily identify the objectionable presence of harmonics. It creates the awareness in the utility for measurement and control of harmonics which in turn helps to improve the Power Quality. A combined Zigbee and GSM technology is also developed to communicate the data received at consumer end to the central server. Along with the central PC information can also be transferred on smart phone by capturing the data from remote location and processing it with a programming tool on smart phone. The main advantage of this method is Remote data logging, as it does not require collecting data physically from actual site. The numeric meter sends data to microcontroller using zigbee module and further to the web server of Central Monitoring System through GSM. This data is processed and analyzed by the source code available in smart phone. For this purpose, the relevant compilers can be installed in the smart phone.

In this paper, it discusses and performs lab experiment of detecting LQI value from ZigBee wireless sensor network and from the variation of LQI values to determine is there any intrusion. In closed and no one existence indoor area it has a steady LQI value while it changes when someone intrudes into the area. An intrusion detection system is developed by using the variation in LQI values. After the system is validated we further develop an in house intrusion monitor system that when someone intrudes into the house the system will alarm or send a message to the house owner's cell phone to alarm the house has been intruded so as to attain the in house security protection effect.

Heterogeneous wireless network based on Wi-Fi and ZigBee for cattle monitoring

Abstract:
The combination of using Wi-Fi and ZigBee technologies in an application to monitor cattle has the potential to increase the range of the network when the animal herd is roaming out of range of the sink. This paper investigates combining a Wi-Fi and ZigBee transceiver on the same sensor node to reliably obtain data of mobile cattle in a field. The solution proposed is a hybrid network conjoining the IEEE 802.11b/g and IEEE 802.15.4 protocols. Cattle as herd animals always roam in a herd manner. It has been observed that when the herd moves far away from the sink, the link between the herd and the sink breaks because there is no relay node in the middle. In order to maintain the link between the herd and the sink a heterogeneous network is proposed. The proposed solution extends the range of a ZigBee network used for cattle monitoring by pairing with the IEEE 802.11b/g protocol. In this paper, we implement two protocols IEEE 802.11b/g and 802.15.4/ZigBee in a hybrid network. The nodes have been designed to avoid interference between the two protocols and ensure good coverage of 802.11b/g in the area where the cattle moves. Moreover the design had to be cost effective so it could be useful for small to medium or large commercial farmers who are most susceptible to cattle theft.

ZigBee-based data transmission and monitoring wireless smart sensor

Possibilities and way to design and implement a ZigBee-based data transmission and monitoring wireless smart sensor network integrated with the Internet are considered and described in the paper. Implementing of a cost-effective such system requires the use and integration of different hardware elements and programming languages. Possibilities and key aspects of smart sensor nodes are considered and described in the paper. Integration of wireless smart sensor network and their sensor nodes with the Internet is described in more details. Design and implementation of an inexpensive energy saving ZigBee point-to-point wireless smart sensor network to monitor sensor data in energy efficient manner using XBee modules and different boards are proposed and described. Configuration of used XBee modules for smart sensor nodes communication is also described. Practical implementation of a battery powered smart sensor nodes and coordinator node is described in details. Data measurement with such sensor nodes is also described. Results of wireless data measurement, data transfer and monitoring with such ZigBee based wireless smart sensor network via Web technologies are shown in the paper.

Design of low cost and power efficient Wireless vision Sensor for surveillance and monitoring

Abstract:
Wireless Sensor Networks have been widely used over a period of time for observation and surveillance. Wireless Sensor Networks are the combination of different sensors built on a tiny embedded device for specific observation such as temperature, humidity, pressure, motion etc. of a subjective region. This paper presents a unique method for customizable design and implementation of `Wireless Image Sensor' for surveillance and monitoring purpose. The image sensor OV7670 captures 8-bit raw RGB image of resolution 640×480 which provides visual information and implement a simple surveillance and monitoring application. There are several challenges in image sensors which have been discussed in this paper such as encryption, transmission and processing speed, power efficiency and computational cost. Implementing wireless image sensor on Arduino Mega board provides an affordable and reliable platform for visual surveillance. The Zigbee transmission protocol provides encrypted transmission over a wireless network. The implemented hardware of visual sensor gives a clear insight on wireless image sensor based on microcontroller. The results elaborate the usefulness of wireless sensor networks in the proposed area of research.

Programmable logic controllers (PLC) can be serviced for supervision & wireless transmission of transformer. The important logic is cost constraint and smarter use. Programming the PLC helps in achieving the various functions and controls. PLC can be used for complete wireless power plant control including superintending and auto-operation that includes cooling fan, transformer oil leakage and oil level control, automatic ON/OFF of pump, restoring of Buchholz relay by pressure sensor control, ON/OFF of secondary systems, and protection etc. Tasks other than supervision like continuous analyzing, data report, instrumentation and stability can also be achieved. For inaccessible working, transmission with PLC can be implemented. For uninterrupted monitoring purpose, a PC can be linked with PLC and connected data can be monitored regularly.

Design of Smart Sensors for Real-Time Water Quality Monitoring

Abstract:
This paper describes work that has been done on design and development of a water quality monitoring system, with the objective of notifying the user of the real-time water quality parameters. The system is able to measure the physiochemical parameters of water quality, such as flow, temperature, pH, conductivity, and the oxidation reduction potential. These physiochemical parameters are used to detect water contaminants. The sensors, which are designed from first principles and implemented with signal conditioning circuits, are connected to a microcontroller-based measuring node, which processes and analyzes the data. In this design, ZigBee receiver and transmitter modules are used for communication between the measuring and notification nodes. The notification node presents the reading of the sensors and outputs an audio alert when water quality parameters reach unsafe levels. Various qualification tests are run to validate each aspect of the monitoring system. The sensors are shown to work within their intended accuracy ranges. The measurement node is able to transmit data by ZigBee to the notification node for audio and visual display. The results demonstrate that the system is capable of reading physiochemical parameters, and can successfully process, transmit, and display the readings

The proposed method changes the original remote controller for home appliances become IOT (internet of things) technology-based and cross-platform control by the smart phone remote wireless control. In our research, smart phone will replace the traditional remote control operation. When the controller press mobile Web App, in addition to the circuit module will emitting infrared signals, our hardware module will also upload information to the cloud database. Such an innovative approach would be able to provide accurate monitoring by real-time monitoring status and real-time analysis. In the proposed smart home embedded system, data sent back from each sensor inside the household can be instantaneously analyzed, Furthermore, the use of Network Address Translation (NAT) technology to control remotely via the Internet. In terms of the construction process of the smart factory system, this dissertation proposes an instantaneous method that carries out the monitoring of factory area temperature, humidity and air quality using smart mobile phone. At the same time, the system detects potential flame, analyze and monitor power loading. These monitoring also include shock detection of operating machines in factory premises. The study proposes integrating ZigBee and Wi-Fi protocol smart monitoring system in the structure of the whole factory. Via ZigBee communication Protocol, the sensors in the factory transmit messages and the instantaneously detected data to the integrated regulating system. Lastly, this research study will, in depth, analyse hands-on problems generated during instantaneous integration of signal packing for various communication protocols. As well as composing the know-how of overcoming these problems using the innovative methods of this study while proposing efficient solution schemes. The above become the greatest features in the building of this integrated regulation system.

Abstract:
Water is an important natural resource and is required in our day to day life. The proposed system aims to design a wireless acquisition system which is the basic building block of the water quality monitoring system. This paper explains the work carried out to design the embedded wireless monitoring system that can measure the turbidity and pH of the water remotely. The system is built using the Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC) microcontroller, which gives a low cost and low power water quality monitoring system with the intrinsic use of RISC type controller. The system consists of two sections, namely, Transmitter section, that collects the pH and turbidity readings from remote place, and, Receiver section, that collects transmitted readings using the ZigBee wireless communication protocol. The results are classified into three classes using the different pH and Turbidity levels to get a water quality index. The results are displayed on the LCD as well as on PC over different time periods.

Flood forecasting using Internet of things and artificial neural networks

Abstract:
Floods are the most common natural disasters, and cause significant damage to life, agriculture and economy. Research has moved on from mathematical modeling or physical parameter based flood forecasting schemes, to methodologies focused around algorithmic approaches. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a field of applied electronics and computer science where a system of devices collects data in real time and transfers it through a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) to the computing device for analysis. IoT generally combines embedded system hardware techniques along with data science or machine learning models. In this work, an IoT and machine learning based embedded system is proposed to predict the probability of floods in a river basin. The model uses a modified mesh network connection over ZigBee for the WSN to collect data, and a GPRS module to send the data over the internet. The data sets are evaluated using an artificial neural network model. The results of the analysis which are also appended show a considerable improvement over the currently existing methods

The population is increasing every day and hence leading to increasing demand of energy consumption. Data center being one of the crucial aspect of IT organisational operations consumes several tens of MW of power. One main concern is business continuity and if any single rack of the data center fails then that might result in impairment in company operations which may also stop completely. In this growing demand of energy consumption and huge requirement of power by a data center, we provide a balanced method to run these data centers smoothly without any interruption. In this paper we propose an energy efficient method to meet the power requirement for these gigantic power consuming data centers as well as techniques of efficient air conditioning system to reduce power consumption. The Data Center air conditioning system include environment monitoring, air conditioning, ventilation and temperature control. The algorithm to monitor and control temperature changes is provided and its implementation is also discussed below. Here we have discussed how the power consumption can be significantly reduced without compromising with the cooling performance of these data centers

A solution for intelligent street lamp monitoring and energy management

Abstract:
In the past, street lamps were turned on or off by a simple Timer or switch. When a street lamp did not light due to fault or electric leakage, it would not be found until it was reported by somebody or found by patrol men. In addition, sometimes the wires for street lamps were stolen, and because the street lamps were extensively distributed, they could not be completely protected by laborers. Street lamps should be protected by automatic detection devices, and with the continuous development of communication technology, such as Zigbee wireless and G3-PLC power line communication technologies, extensive street lamp monitoring and energy conservation management becomes feasible. This study uses G3-PLC power line communication technology to build a street lamp monitoring and energy management system for street lamp security, trouble display, and street lamp on/off energy management, in order to provide a solution for intelligent street lamp monitoring and energy management for reference.

Mobile robot remote path planning and motion control in a maze environment

Abstract:
A wireless navigation mobile robot system is proposed in this paper for both path planning and trajectory execution. It should be within an indoor maze environment. The system consists of some device like a mobile robot, motion controller, visual sensor, ZigBee wireless communication device and a maze terrain to capture images of the mobile robot. The camera is used within the maze. To determine the robot's position it uses the Developed image processing and analyzing algorithms and orientation based on the color markers recognition. The Markers are placed on the top of the robot. So with this data the implemented navigation system calculates a trajectory for the mobile robot. It should be from a starting point to a target point for the trajectory calculation the Breadth First Search (BFS) and developed Depth First Search (DFS) algorithms which is modified were used. A developed control algorithm calculates the control signals in a real time. These signals are sent to the robot with the ZigBee device. And the modules for wireless communication, which causes the robot motion along the calculated trajectory and eventually, the completion of the trajectory method. The entire control system is realized and also the experimental results have been obtained. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness and robustness of the implemented control system.

Arduino based automatic wireless weather station with remote graphical application and alerts

Abstract:
In this paper we have proposed, developed and tested a hardware module based on Arduino Uno Board and Zigbee wireless technology, which measures the meteorological data, including air temperature, dew point temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity, wind speed and wind direction. This information is received by a specially designed application interface running on a PC connected through Zigbee wireless link. The proposed system is also a mathematical model capable of generating short time local alerts based on the current weather parameters. It gives an on line and real time effect. We have also compared the data results of the proposed system with the data values of Meteorological Station Chandigarh and Snow & Avalanche Study Establishment Chandigarh Laboratory. The results have come out to be very precise. The idea behind to this work is to monitor the weather parameters, weather forecasting, condition mapping and warn the people from its disastrous effects.

Earthquake early warning system by IOT using Wireless sensor networks

Abstract:
The Wireless sensor network (WSN) is spatially distributed sensors in an autonomous manner to monitor physical environmental conditions. The Internet of things (IOT) is the network of computed physical objects which enables these things to connect, collect and exchange data. In this paper, we propose an earthquake early warning system by means of an IOT in WSN. The sensors are placed in the surface of the earth. When an earthquake occurs, both compression P wave and transverse S wave radiates outward the epicenter of the earth. The P wave, which travels fastest, trips the sensors, placed in the landscape. It causes early alert signals to be transfer ahead, giving humans and automated electronic system a warning to take precautionary actions. So that before the damage begins with the arrival of the slower but stronger S waves, the public are warned earlier. The signal from each sensor which senses the P wave and which has Zigbee transmitter transfers the alert signal to the gateway. The gateway which has the Zigbee receiver and acts as an IOT transfers the warning to smart phones. Thus early alert message is received by the people in terms of location, time and other parameters. Eventually, many of the human lives can be saved. The software used here is LABVIEW where the three angle axis of the sensor can be sensed and detected when the sensors are interfaced with this software.

Efficient Monitoring system for cardiac patients using Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN)

The health monitoring system is one of the trendy research areas of Wireless Senor Network (WSN) which helps the users, to use sensor strategy to sense signals, physiological events of the patients and alert the users. Traditional sensors have restrictions such as positions, wired communication between the sensor modules provide the patients not to move them freely. Traditional methods have difficulties in Monitoring heart patients for urban and rural area but by using WSN it is possible by implementing internet/intranet. The proposed system concentrates on reducing the stress level and strain of doctors/patients and also reduces the medical errors, man power and increases the overall flexibility of staffs and doctors. The main objective of the proposed system for the insensible heart patients is monitor the pulse rate, heart rate, temperature, oxygen saturation rate and blood pressure by using pulse sensor, heart rate sensor, temperature sensor, spo2 sensor and pressure sensor. The sensor data of the each patient will be sent to the smart phones of the caretakers (receiver and doctor) to monitor effectively even though when patients are in unconscious state. The result of the proposed method includes the following parameters such as coverage of system, area size, and No. of patients, data type, and speed of the data transmission to closely monitor proposed system.

Wind-solar hybrid streetlights monitoring system networking optimization

Abstract:
A networking optimization strategy, ZigBee Serial Network is put forward, in order to make up the disadvantage of ZigBee Mesh network and realize real-time effective monitoring for wind-solar hybrid streetlights. A wireless monitoring system is designed based on ZigBee Serial Network and 3G technology. ZigBee Serial Network only has Full Function Device nodes, which has the advantages of stable transmission, wide covered area, easy to change failure modules. It is suitable for wind-solar hybrid streetlights monitoring or remote serial data transmission. Its structure and building mode is introduced. ZigBee and 3G modules, software process, ultimately experiments and engineering application results of the monitoring system are provided. It shows that ZigBee Serial Network is stable, low packet loss rate, and the monitoring system is low cost, easy to realize, accurately reflecting running state of the streetlights. It has a wide application prospect for wind-solar hybrid streetlights in the future.

Piezoelectric self-powered source of wireless bridge health monitoring nodes

Abstract:
A wireless bridge health monitoring system is introduced. Arming at the difficulty of changing battery, a piezoelectric energy harvesting circuit is presented. This self-powered structure use multi-cantilever to broaden the resonance frequency band of the piezoelectric vibrator. Then, we use standard circuit and LTC4071 to transfer the energy to the lithium battery. The experimental results show that the piezoelectric energy harvesting circuit can support the normal operation of the bridge health monitoring.

Smart vehicle monitoring system for air pollution detection using Wsn

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) plays an important role in the application of environmental monitoring. Mostly air pollution being major issues as cause many hazardous effects on ecological system of human being. Therefore the need of monitoring air pollution around the city and the public transport buses and cars are very important problem today. Basically, environmental monitoring methods have difficulties in wired sensor network but by using WSN it is possible to achieve the challenging issues by implementing internet/intranet. This proposed research concentrates on measuring the gas level of air contamination around the cities and reduces the man power and also increases the overall flexibility of sender and receiver. The main objective of the proposed system for the moving vehicles is monitor the NO2, Humidity, Temperature, CO levels of air contamination by using NO2 sensor, Humidity sensor, Temperature sensor, CO sensor. In our proposed work MANET(Mobile Ad Hoc Network) routing algorithm is used which has nearly 28 mobile nodes(Vehicles) provide a coverage area of 300 meters around the city. The sensor data of the vehicles will be sent to the smart phones of the appropriate drivers to monitor effectively. The result of the proposed method includes the following parameters such as data type, speed of transmission, coverage of system, coverage area size, and No.of vehicles to closely monitor the proposed system.

A Navigation system for rescue operation during disaster management using LTE advanced network

Abstract:
Disasters either natural or manmade, is a part of our everyday life and no measures can eliminate the occurrence. But, unpreparedness and unawareness of these disasters enhance the severity of damages and cause the loss of human lives. So after the occurrence of the disaster, it requires all out efforts for rescue operation of the lives trapped or lost. When a person gets trapped in an unknown place, it is hard to pinpoint his location to rescue him. As a result, the rescuer may need huge amount of resources, energy and time to locate the victim which may result in serious injury or even death. In this paper, we have proposed navigation of rescuers to locate a victim during rescue operation by establishing a network which can be initiated either by the victim or by the rescuer. During disaster, mobile network can either be in service or terminated temporarily. So, the proposed system utilizes D2D communication under LTE technology in presence of network; and in failure of mobile network, it will deploy ZigBee under WPAN technology. Simulations performed indicate minimal time required locating victim to rescue in a fastest way with or without the service of mobile operator.

Prepaid metering system for isolated microgrids

Abstract:
This paper describes two implementations of prepaid metering systems for isolated microgrids. The first implementation uses GSM as its communication channel. The system is composed of smart meters with GSM capability and a utility server that handles all the accounting and reloading processes. The system allows communication among the supplier or microgrid owner, the consumers, and the retailers through SMS. The second implementation replaces the GSM module with a Zigbee module which allows communication on areas without cellular access. This system is composed of smart meters and a base station which communicate with each other up to a certain distance. The results show that the meter performs accurate energy measurements for both linear and non-linear loads. The smart meter, utility server, and base station are also able to properly handle all incoming and outgoing messages in modest duration given a moderate GSM signal strength or a certain distance whether indoors or outdoors. The server is also able to reload, audit and disconnect the meters whenever necessary.

Wireless Remote Patient Monitoring System: Effects of Interference

Abstract:
Wireless remote patient monitoring has the scope to improve patient experience while enabling data transmission to support effective patient care. Dash7 and ZigBee are potential wireless technologies which can facilitate this. Dash7 or ZigBee, when integrated with a mobile phone accompanied by the patient, can overcome the problem of range limitation imposed by traditional wireless patient monitoring solutions. A wireless remote monitoring system using integrated Dash7 or ZigBee and mobile phone technologies is proposed. Reliability is a key requirement in patient monitoring systems. Signal interference can affect the reliability of wireless systems. This paper investigates signal interference on Dash7 and ZigBee in a multi-technology environment. We further consider some of the the ethical implications of using Context Aware systems and their impact upon privacy and show that such tracking systems are ethically feasible but may require additional patient consent.

One of the most interesting fields having an increasing need of decision support systems is agricultural environment monitoring. Agricultural environment monitoring has become an important field of control and protection, providing real-time system and control communication with the physical world. An intelligent and smart WSN system can collect and process large amount of data from the beginning of the monitoring and manage air quality, soil conditions, to weather situations. The proposed system collects and monitors information related to the growth environment of crops outside and inside greenhouses using WSN sensors and CCTV cameras. The temperature and humidity sensors are developed in-house and both sensors are very reliable. Furthermore, the system allows automatic control of greenhouse environment remotely and thus improves the productivity of crops. In our current scenario faulty street lights may lead accident and also encourage crime. But our system has the function to detect the faults in the street light manually. It takes more time to detect and rectification. Our current scenario primarily depends on electrical inspectors to frequently check the street lights. It also unwanted work, even the system working well. Here the new method is proposed based on automated system to detect the faults in street lights system automatically and also intimates and updates the problem in internet of things (IOT). This system improves the detection system in faulty street lights (FSLS) and it eliminates the delay on rectification. However, this system should enable the sensor network and real time status reports.

Wireless communication-based smoke detection system design for forest fire monitoring

Abstract:
Based on wireless communication technology, this paper designs a smoke detection system out of the need for forest fire monitoring. Firstly, this paper designs the hardware scheme for the key functional modules, and implements the integration of the entire system, as well as the functional debugging at the platform. Based on the hardware design, the overall scheme of software system is set up, which successfully gets through the experimental debugging. For communication, the data received from the sensor nodes is collected by a router to a coordinator, and subsequently sent to the GPRS module through a serial port. Finally, the information is shown on the PC through the Internet. The overall system satisfies the particular need of forest environment monitoring, and presents a good prospect of application and promotion.

For the health-care needs of the elderly people, a fall detection indoor positioning system based on CC2431 wireless positioning system and SCA3060 tri-axis accelerometer is designed in this paper. CC2431 location engine positioning algorithm is based on the RSSI values. The blind node will collect the RSSI value from both itself and the reference nodes and then locate the fallen elderly people by entering the corresponding parameters of the environment. The tri-axis accelerometer can determine the elderly fall direction and level by collecting X, Y, Z-axis accelerometer. When the acceleration exceeds some threshold, a signal will be sent to the blind node to locate the position and send alerts.

In consideration that it is impossible to effectively transmit and promptly analyze the monitored data under variable environment in remote areas, this paper designed a remote stress monitoring system based on GPRS and ZigBee. The lower position machine of system consists of optical fiber sensor module and ZigBee module. The lower position machine will pack monitored the data of stress that optical fiber sensor measured through cascade transmission by ZigBee module. Then, the packed data will be sent by GPRS module of coordinator node to a remote server. The software on the upper computer are written in C# language, on which users can check the monitored data of stress when the client connected with the server. In this way, they can handle the alarms in time and set the alarm threshold of ZigBee through the client for remote wireless stress monitoring of steel on a real-time basis. Stable and economical for transmitting data at a fast speed, this system can completely monitor the stress in variable environment on a real-time basis.

Real Time AMR & Control of Household Energy Meter with Zigbee Communication

Abstract:
In today's world almost all industrial systems are based on wireless communication, as it has many advantages. This paper presents the design and implementation of Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and Energy meter control using Zigbee communication. The design presents a novice method of combined Zigbee and Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) technology to monitor the power consumption and controlling of the meters remotely. This system avoids the human intervention in power management. If the consumer doesn't pay the bill in time, the user is informed through sms system using GSM. If still user does not pay the bill then after the designed late consideration, the power connection will be disconnected from the remote server automatically. It displays the corresponding billing information on LCD and sends data to the server through the Zigbee Module. The entire programming is based on VB Language. The developed mechanism provides efficient monitoring of meter reading, power control mechanism, avoiding the billing error and reduces the maintenance cost.

High efficient and intelligent lighting and security remote control system using a Zigbee network

The proposed intelligent lighting system can optimize energy uses with integrated sensors and controllers. The main control is designed using a various sensors which collects the relevant data for management and maintenance of the lamp. ZigBee and Global Systems for Mobile Communications (GSM) based wireless technologies are used for the wireless communication, also used LED based source of light which gives the additional energy saving. Information is communicated between monitoring station and lamp station by using ZigBee network.Whenever the lamp gets damaged Short Message Service (SMS) is sent by using GSM which makes easy maintenance of lamp. There are three modes of operation of system-day mode, peak mode and intelligent mode. The real time monitoring of lamp can be possible by using GUI at monitoring station which is also used to check power consumption of each lamp. A time and energy efficient parking system using Zigbee communication protocol

Abstract:
A major problem in large and busy traffic areas is parking vehicles by searching for empty (and available) spaces. In the recent days, some parking lot systems are equipped with sensors and microcontrollers to automatically count the cars parked in the lot. However, such a parking system may not indicate any empty spots. In addition, existing systems are very expensive and suffer due to long processing time and large energy consumption. Recently introduced ZigBee technology is a low-cost and low-power wireless communication protocol targeted towards automation and remote control applications. In this work, we propose a smart parking system for heavy traffic environments using ZigBee wireless transmission module. The proposed system is suitable for multi-floor buildings and able to send a message to vehicles about the status of parking spaces. The parking monitoring system continuously collects the data from parking slot detectors and then it intimates the vehicle section. We simulate the proposed system using ZigBee and two other popular wireless technologies: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Experimental results show that ZigBee provides transition time and power advantages over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Non-intrusive Zigbee power meter for load monitoring in smart buildings

Abstract:
Energy efficiency in smart buildings requires distributed sensing infrastructure to monitor the power consumption of appliances, machines and lighting sources. The analysis of current and voltage waveforms is fundamental for gathering diagnostic information about the power quality and for reducing power wastage. Moreover, it enables Non-intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM), which is the process of disaggregating a household's total electricity consumption into its contributing appliances, by analysing the voltage and current changes. In this paper, an innovative full Energy-neutral (i.e. battery free) and Non-intrusive Wireless Energy Meter (NIWEM) is presented to measure current, voltage and power factor. As key features, the NIWEM is completely non-invasive and it can self-sustain its operations by harvesting energy from the monitored load. It also features a standard (Zigbee) wireless interface for communication with the smart-building system. Experimental results have confirmed that complete energy sustainability can be achieved also with very low-power loads.

Development of a voice-controlled home automation using Zigbee module

Abstract:
In this study, we aimed speech recognition-based remote control of home devices. The system was designed at two stages: speech recognition module and transmitter module that sends commands including fewer than two main headings. In the first stage speech recognition algorithm is implemented in MATLAB. Mel Frequency Cepstrum Coefficients (MFCCs) are used as a feature extraction method. Dynamic Timing Warping (DTW) is used as a feature matching method. After the recognition of speech commands entered, Arduino pin situation is changed via USB. The voltage change in pin is detected by the same pin connected to the transmitter Zigbee module. When the change is detected, Zigbee transmitter sends data to connecting on the desired device to be controlled the receiver Zigbee module via wireless network. When sending data detected by the receiver Zigbee module, 5V relay is triggered connecting on the device pins of the module. Thus, it was possible to successfully remotely control any device with speech commands using wireless network.

Implementation of an incampus fire alarm system using ZigBee

Abstract:
Nearly all our buildings and workspaces are protected against fire breaks, which may occur due to some fault in the electric circuitries and power sources. The immediate alarming and aid to extinguish the fire in such situations of fire breaks are provided using embedded systems installed in the buildings. But as the area being monitored against such fire threats becomes vast, these systems do not provide a centralized solution. For the protection of such a huge area, like a college campus or an industrial park, a centralized wireless fire control system using Wireless sensor network technology is developed. The system developed connects the five dangers prone zones of the campus with a central control room through a ZigBee communication interface such that in case of any fire break in any of the building, a direct communication channel is developed that will send an immediate signal to the control room. In case if any of the emergency zone lies out of reach of the central node, multi hoping technique is adopted for the effective transmitting of the signal. The five nodes maintains a wireless interlink among themselves as well as with the central node for this purpose. Moreover a hooter is attached along with these nodes to notify the occurrence of any fire break such that the persons can leave the building immediately and with the help of the signal received in the control room, the exact building where the fire break occurred is identified and fire extinguishing is done. The real time system developed is implemented in Atmega32 with temperature, fire and humidity sensors and ZigBee module.

A ZigBee based reliable and efficient power metering system for energy management and controlling

Abstract:
Planning and management of energy are among the most important topics nowadays due to the fact that the existing power plants and systems fail to satisfy the energy demand and keep up with the daily developing technologies. To maintain the energy need of the existing systems, researchers are aiming to improve usage and savings of available resources and systems. For example, power metering system has been proposed to decrease the energy wasting. The purpose of this system can be explained as limiting the energy consumption in some cases like standby or while switching programs or devices which the system is installed on. By blocking the unnecessary consumption of energy, profits and savings are targeted. In this work, a new power meter system based on ZigBee technology is designed and implemented to obtain a more efficient structure and reduce the number of disadvantages of the existing technologies. In SmartPlug, the MCU was moved into the plug from outer environment and shifting the host to a spectator to eliminate user based faults and/or problems. Moreover, the proposed structure enhances the safety by detecting the sudden voltage fluctuations and preventing the possible damages of end-devices. In addition to these, we prove that cutting of stand-by powers and limiting the energy consumption by arranging the working hours of devices based on energy unit prices provide efficient, right and cheap usage of the energy.

Energy efficient intra-hospital multi-patient cardiac monitoring through ZigBee network

Abstract:
This paper presents an energy efficient intrahospital telemedicine scenario for multi-patient cardiac monitoring using ZigBee network. A telemedicine scenario is proposed in which Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals of patients are acquired through ECG sensor nodes having transmission capability and these ECG signals are received by Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) kept at nursing station through ZigBee network. ECG signals are further transmitted to Doctor's PDA. Energy efficiency of proposed network is investigated by evaluating the performance of various routing protocols in terms of Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), Battery life, Energy Consumption, End to End delay by varying the transmission power of ECG sensor nodes and for different routing protocols.

ZigBee-based irrigation system for home gardens

Abstract:
Single-chip microcontrollers equipped with wireless transceivers are gaining popularity in smart home automation because of their built-in resources, low power consumption, size, affordability and durability. Research and development professionals are seizing the opportunity to design and integrate more functions and services for smart home monitoring and control systems utilizing such microcontrollers. This paper presents a wireless irrigation system for a smart home garden that can be integrated with existing smart home control systems. The system consists of slave nodes and a master station each of which is equipped with a wireless microcontroller. Each slave node is equipped with a temperature sensor, a soil-moister sensor, a water valve, a microcontroller and a zigbee transceiver. The slave microcontroller reads and frames the surrounding temperature of the garden's grass and trees along with soil moisture. Then, the frame is forwarded to the master station via a zigbee ad-hoc network. The master station has an embedded fuzzy logic irrigation algorithm to water the grass and trees based on a set of rules. A home web-server is interfaced with the master station for remote access monitoring and operation. The proposed system can be operated as a stand-alone unit or can be integrated with existing home automation systems.

Home energy management system based on daily demand prediction and ZigBee network

Energy Management systems have become an essential part of the new Smart Grid concept. In this context, wireless sensor network are established as one of the more flexible solutions for monitoring and control in home environments. Along with these systems, energy models for demand prediction have also achieved a remarkable place where daily load profiles could be used to determine the switching instants for each appliance. This paper describes the development of an application that integrates both the management of energy by means of a wireless personal network based on ZigBee standard and the demand prediction using stochastic models hosted on a Web Server which could be remotely executed, giving the application higher flexibility, usability and interoperability.

Design and Application of a VOC-Monitoring System Based on a ZigBee Wireless Sensor Network

Abstract:
Monitoring volatile organic compound (VOC) pollution levels in indoor environments is of great importance for the health and comfort of individuals, especially considering that people currently spend >80% of their time indoors. The primary aim of this paper is to design a low-power ZigBee sensor network and internode data reception control framework to use in the real-time acquisition and communication of data concerning air pollutant levels from VOCs. The network consists of end device sensors with photoionization detectors, routers that propagate the network over long distances, and a coordinator that communicates with a computer. The design is based on the ATmega16 microcontroller and the Atmel RF230 ZigBee module, which are used to effectively process communication data with low power consumption. Priority is given to power consumption and sensing efficiency, which are achieved by incorporating various smart tasking and power management protocols. The measured data are displayed on a computer monitor through a graphical user interface. The preliminary experimental results demonstrate that the wireless sensor network system can monitor VOC concentrations with a high level of accuracy and is thus suitable for automated environmental monitoring. Both good indoor air quality and energy conservation can be achieved by integrating the VOC monitoring system proposed in this paper with the residential integrated ventilation controller.

Implementation of a Wireless ECG Acquisition SoC for IEEE 802.15.4 (ZigBee) Applications

Abstract:
This paper presents a wireless biosignal acquisition system-on-a-chip (WBSA-SoC) specialized for electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring. The proposed system consists of three subsystems, namely, 1) the ECG acquisition node, 2) the protocol for standard IEEE 802.15.4 ZigBee system, and 3) the RF transmitter circuits. The ZigBee protocol is adopted for wireless communication to achieve high integration, applicability, and portability. A fully integrated CMOS RF front end containing a quadrature voltage-controlled oscillator and a 2.4-GHz low-IF (i.e., zero-IF) transmitter is employed to transmit ECG signals through wireless communication. The low-power WBSA-SoC is implemented by the TSMC 0.18-μm standard CMOS process. An ARM-based displayer with FPGA demodulation and an RF receiver with analog-to-digital mixed-mode circuits are constructed as verification platform to demonstrate the wireless ECG acquisition system. Measurement results on the human body show that the proposed SoC can effectively acquire ECG signals.

An animal health monitoring system for monitoring the physiological parameters, such as rumination, body temperature, and heart rate with surrounding temperature and humidity, has been developed. The developed system can also analyze the stress level corresponding to thermal humidity index. The IEEE802.15.4 and IEEE1451.2 standards-based sensor module has been developed successfully. The Zigbee device and PIC18F4550 microcontroller are used in the implementation of sensor module. The graphical user interface (GUI) is implemented in LabVIEW 9 according to the IEEE1451.1 standard. The real-time monitoring of physiological and behavioral parameters can be present on the GUI PC. The device is very helpful for inexpensive health care of livestock. A prototype model is developed and tested with high accuracy results.

An energy efficiency solution for WBAN in healthcare monitoring system

Abstract:
The Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) allows Healthcare Monitoring Systems to get the flexibility and mobility characteristics. However, almost WBAN is made up of several tiny, light-weighted and battery-operated sensors with the limit of energy. Therefore, an energy-effective WBAN system is vitally important to make the long-term Healthcare Monitoring System. In this paper, we have proposed an energy efficiency solution for WBAN based on ZigBee applying Healthcare Monitoring System. Particularly, we utilized the ZigBee standard working in beacon-enable mode to obtain the adaptive duty cycle. Consequently, the energy consumption in idle-mode is avoided, as well as the total energy consumption of sensors is also decreased and extended network lifetime. The simulation results conducted by OPNET Modeler show that our proposed method can save efficient energy consumption of WBAN while the QoS is ensured in terms of network performances (e.g., average end to end delay, network throughput) in long-term Healthcare Monitoring System.

Wireless Sensor Technologies (WST) is entering a new phase. Recent advances offer vast opportunities for research and development. Automated traffic light control system and stolen vehicle detection

This paper proposes a machine controlled Aggregation of vehicles (traffic) power to direct system that smartly used to avoid crowding of vehicles, ambulance headway and detection of stolen vehicle. Each transport vehicle is furnished with (RFID'S) Radio Frequency Identification tag to ascertain in Aggregation of vehicles (traffic) signal. A RFID Reader counts the vehicles that is used to cross a particular road for a specified duration. Based on a count of vehicles, if an aggregation of vehicles (traffic) density had inflated and detected by IR Sensor, a green light is turned on and vehicles get passed in a evenly manner. If a RFID Reader reads a tag of a stolen vehicle, immediately a message is sent to police power to direct room using GSM SIM300. In addition, when an ambulance is at hand through ZigBee and Atmega328 for message passage way towards a aggregation of vehicles (traffic)signal junction, it will transmit information to a aggregation of vehicles (traffic) power to direct unit(controller) to turn it to green light. An integrated virtual control of robot manipulator for automated industrial environment

Abstract:
The mechanical arm (manipulator) of a robot can be controlled using image processing techniques. The system detects user motion and colour in real time. The main goal is to gather user motions and colour from a video stream captured by a webcam facing the user. To track the motion of the user's hand; it needs to select the Image feature that is both robust and the one which is ideal for real time tracking of moving points across consecutive image frames. The intuition is that if it randomly picks a point on a uniform surface to track, and then it not likely to find the same point in the next frame. On the other hand, if it chooses a unique point that is more invariant under motion or luminance changes, it has more chance of finding the point again and the tracking will be more robust. The feature Extraction and the tracking algorithm are more efficient in this system. The colour detection is done by converting the image into grayscale and the intensity is been calculated and the respected colour is been tracked, by doing so the colour of the object is been detected, the user wears a hand glove and makes gestures before the camera hence the system detects the colour and the motion of the user and puts into action.

A novel security enabled speed monitoring system for two wheelers using wireless technology

Abstract:
Nowadays accidents and vehicle theft cases of two-wheelers are increasing at an alarming rate. In present systems, the speed is monitored by using cameras, speed governors etc. These systems have geographical, visibility and applicability restrictions. These systems can't be used completely for two-wheeler because it will affect the stability of the vehicle and cause accidents. Here we are proposing a Novel Security Enabled Speed Monitoring System for Two Wheeler using Wireless Technology. In the proposed system, we are incorporating both security and speed monitoring in a single system, using wireless technologies like RFID, GPS, ZIGBEE, and GPRS. The RFID tag provided to the owner will help to check the authenticity of the driver, using the vehicle. In case of any unauthorized attempt to drive the vehicle, the GPS and GPRS systems can be used to gather the current information about the vehicle and to inform the owner. When the vehicle is moving without verifying the RFID, the Hall Effect sensor in the vehicle will detect it and alert the owner. A ZIGBEE transmitter is placed in each speed zone(National Highways, State Highways, Schools, Hospitals etc). If the speed is increased above a predefined level of that zone, it will warn the driver. If the speed is further increased, the information regarding the position, Vehicle No, Speed, and Time etc. will be stored into an authorized database using GPRS. Thus the proposed system helps to reduce the road accidents by proper monitoring of the vehicle by the authority along with an additional security to the vehicle from being stolen. In the proposed system the speed is continuously monitored without any restriction and thereby, can reduce two-wheeler accidents. Security is also incorporated in this system. Same hardware can be used for both speed monitoring and security thereby, can reduce the complexity.

Health informatics for indoor air quality monitoring

Abstract:
Indoor environments are characterized by the existence of various pollutant sources. Moreover, at present, people spend more than 90% of their time inside buildings. Thus, the indoor air quality is undoubtedly a key factor to be controlled to ensure the health and comfort of the occupants. Most of the air quality monitoring systems on the market are very expensive and only allow to collect random samples. This paper describes iAQ, a monitoring system that uses a low cost wireless sensor network, to collect indoor air quality information. This system was developed using Arduino, XBee modules and micro sensors, for storage and availability of monitoring data in real-time. This data can be accessed through a Web portal and through a Android mobile application requiring only an internet connection. Five sensors are used for the acquisition of environmental parameters (air temperature, humidity, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and luminosity). Other sensors can be added to monitor specific pollutants. The results show that the indoor air quality may be, in some cases, quite different than expected values. The proposed system can provide effective indoor air quality assessment in order to avoid the risk of exposure to pollutant sources.

Mine Safety System Using Wireless Sensor Network

Abstract:
This paper describes the work carried out on the design and construction of a mine safety system prototype using a wireless sensor network with the objective of building a safety system to monitor the ambient characteristics of the mining environment. A review of the current literature relating to the health and safety of mine workers and mine safety systems is done. The subsystems of the prototype system are then simulated. The hardware consisted of electronic circuitry where a microcontroller is the principal processing unit. A graphical user interface is also implemented. A number of qualification tests are carried out. The temperature, humidity, airflow, and noise sensor measurements have an accuracy of 89.01%, 98.55%, 90.5%, and 89.53%, and a resolution of 0.105 °C, 0.12% RH, 0.05 m/s, and 0.23 dB SPL, respectively. In addition, gas and dust sensors met the specification; however, the accuracy could be improved. Two controlled outputs were implemented in the form of ventilation switching and a noise protection scheme.

Smart low power wireless sensor network for underground mine environment monitoring

Abstract:
Underground mines are more hazardous in nature and contain unsafe zones for their workers. There is the need to develop an effective, secure, reliable and low cost surveillance and safety system in underground mines. This paper presents a low cost, low power mobile wireless underground mine environment monitoring system, developed by using the ZigBee protocols based wireless data transfer system. The system includes a small board integrating all sensors designed for monitoring the underground environment. Suitable firmware is developed for secure and reliable wireless data transfer from the sensor network. Data, transferred through routers and coordinator is received by data management & acquisition software, developed for the purpose. This helps in displaying the real-time data in tabular and graphical forms as well as for alarm generation in case of exceeding the limits. The whole system is tested in a model mine successfully

Wireless transmission of ECG biopotentials using XBee technology

Abstract:
This paper provides a wireless alternative to transmit surface ECG potentials taken from three different points of the Einthoven's triangle. Potentials, after being amplified and filtered they are transmitted and received using XBee technology. This avoids the use of cables for connecting electrodes to instrumentation amplifiers, which could improve the measurement of the heart's activity, and increase patient comfort.

This paper discusses, embedded system for wireless power monitoring and controlling which is developed using PIC microcontroller with the ZigBee communication technology. As a demonstration automatic controllable and Power monitoring system to make the lecture hall lighting system easily controllable and monitoring. Here it is used PIC (16F877A) microcontroller to reduce circuit complexity and it requires less power. Power saving can be achieved by using sensors like Pyro-electric Infrared Sensor for power monitoring and controlling circuit to the lecture hall lighting system. The proposed method for detection of human is done by providing the PIR sensor to indicate the entering or exit of the persons. PIC Microcontroller continuously monitors the Pyro-Electric infrared receiver. When the persons pass through the PIR receiver then the IR rays falling on the receiver are obstructed, this obstruction is sensed by the microcontroller also PIR sensor will check the movement of the object with the help of radiations emitted by the object. Then microcontroller will check the input coming from the sensor and if moving object is present then automatically it switches ON the lights. And if there is no moving object then all the lights will be switched off automatically.

A real time sensor data monitoring system for wireless sensor network

In real world various activity monitoring applications have been implemented using Wireless Sensor Network. WSN provides a platform to utilize information from connected sensors. Sometimes a monitoring application requires actual time data storage and analysis for data received from the sensors. A real time monitoring application is required to sense and transmit data to main data center. Main data center has to perform analysis and give response for received data in real time. This paper demonstrates a generic real time Wireless Sensor Network based on ZigBee network to monitor various sensor output. Proposed system uses an open source FreeRTOS as an operating system for sensor node to monitor sensor data in actual time, also a graphical user interface has been provided to represent the received sensor data.

An implementation of IoT for healthcare

Abstract:
Internet of Things (IoT) is a computing process, where each physical object is equipped with sensors, microcontrollers and transceivers for empowering communication and is built with suitable protocol stacks which help them interacting with each other and communicating with the users. The proposed system suggests a cost effective and integrated solution for water quantity measurement using flow meter, payment acknowledgement system implemented with the help of Global System for Mobile Communication, Real time monitoring and control of various parameters achieved by micro-controller and ZigBee communication, Detection of leakage in distribution system supported by solenoid valve and other peripheral devices. Mine safety monitoring system (MSMS) can achieve a variety of safety factors of production and underground environment such as gas, temperature, humidity etc. for monitoring mine production, safety management and for safety of the miners to provide a good basis for decision making. The number of person injuries and deaths caused by the lack of information in mine are increasing year by year, so it is very important to control the accidents for achieving the safety in process of mine, and the development of the mine industry. At present, the mine monitoring system is generally composed of the monitoring sensor parameters in underground substation, information transmission system and surface base station centre. The communication between the underground substations with the surface centre consists of the information transmitting system that directly effect on the transmission quality of information and investment cost of the system using the Zigbee technology. The purpose of this work is to implement a safety system in mine based on wireless sensor network.

A Proposed Wireless System to Real Time Monitoring in Power Transformer

Abstract:
This work proposed a new real time monitoring system in distribution transformer with communication through a ZigBee network. It obtains the voltage, current, power, energy and frequency of all loads connected at the distribution transformer. The information collected in the measurements are send to a server through a ZigBee network for safe the information. The new real time system build a wireless network with low energy consumption and a large transmission distance with enough conditions to work in an urban distribution electric network. This system make possible a low cost infrastructure to do a task of save electric magnitude as well as possible diagnostic of the electrical network.

A smart helmet for air quality and hazardous event detection for the mining industry

Abstract:
A smart helmet has been developed that is able to detect of hazardous events in the mines industry. In the development of helmet, we have considered the three main types of hazard such as air quality, helmet removal, and collision (miners are struck by an object). The first is the concentration level of the hazardous gases such as CO, SO2, NO2, and particulate matter. The second hazardous event was classified as a miner removing the mining helmet off their head. An IR sensor was developed unsuccessfully but an off-the shelf IR sensor was then used to successfully determine when the helmet is on the miner's head. The third hazardous event is defined as an event where miners are struck by an object against the head with a force exceeding a value of 1000 on the HIC (Head Injury Criteria). An accelerometer was used to measure the acceleration of the head and the HIC was calculated in software. The layout of the visualisation software was completed, however the implementation was unsuccessful. Tests were successfully done to calibrate the accelerometer. PCB's that were designed and made included a breakout board and a prototype board. A whole software implementation was done based on Contiki operating system in order to do the control of the measuring of sensors and of calculations done with the measured values. This paper presents the undertaken design detailing solutions to issues raised in previous research.

Wireless sensor network application for carbon monoxide monitoring

Abstract:
Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, tasteless and colorless gas in which it is difficult to be recognized by human beings. CO gas that enters the human body at a certain concentration has negative impact on health. A monitoring system which can recognize the amount of CO gas concentration, especially for the indoor is needed to cope with this problem. In this paper, monitoring system is designed using XBee as a data transmission medium. Three XBee are integrated with the sensor node circuits, microcontroller as a data processor and one XBee as a data collector. The sensor nodes consist of an LM35DZ temperature sensor, a humidity sensor HSM 20-G and a CO sensor TGS 2600. The data are read by sensor nodes and then they are transmitted wirelessly using XBee. The data collector functions as the receiver, processor and data viewer in the form of tables and graphs using Visual Basic 6.0. From this design, the results of data transmission can be displayed in the form of graphs and tables which are then stored into the database. The data transmission range is ± 53 meters indoor, where the average error TGS 2600 sensor reading is 4.414 %.

Design of Intelligent Neonatal Ward Environment Monitor System

Abstract:
According to the environment requirements of the neonatal ward, an intelligent environment monitor system in neonatal ward based on wireless sensor network is proposed. The DMA-210XP embedded development board is adopted as the core hardware platform. Using the sensor, Zigbee, Wi-Fi, Android and other technologies, the system can realize real time monitoring of the temperature, humidity, light intensity and other parameters in the neonatal ward. The results show that, the system can meet the general needs of hospital ward and has better application prospect.

Low cost and power efficient automated traffic control system using IEEE 802.15.4

Abstract:
The paper discusses a proposed model for automated traffic signal control system using short range wireless technology standard IEEE 802.15.4 (ZigBee). The proposed model is expected to be low cost and power efficient which is well suited for Transportation and Surveillance Systems in developing countries. Several experiments were performed to gauge the efficiency of ZigBee technology in open environment like roads where various hurdles can affect the communication; however, results were very encouraging and showed that although ZigBee is a short range wireless technology but it is well suited for transportation systems using multi-hop communication. This paper specifically deals with the wireless communication between various ZigBee modules and studies the effect of various factors on ZigBee communication in open environment.

Developing of a monitoring and control system of an electric load for domestic applications

Abstract:
The energy consumption is justified by the man's need of having a comfortable survival, thus, the production, generation and power management is a clearly relevant and vital fact. This paper describes the development of a prototype system to carry out the measurement, monitoring and control of electrical charge whose application is purely residential, with the aim of not exceeding a certain limit of consumption, this device will handle circuit switching, display and storage of information. Moreover, it can work wired or wireless by using the Zigbee standard. It is important to point out that this paper will focus in the technologies used to develop the mentioned equipment and how they are integrated to obtain the final prototype.

Low-cost wireless system for patient monitoring

Abstract:
Wireless sensors networks (WSNs) became a successful alternative to cabled systems used for surveillance or monitoring, allowing more freedom to patients or elderly persons and also lower costs for implementation improving the quality of medical care. The paper presents a possible solution for a surveillance system based on a BeagleBoard-XM card, connected to a video camera and emulates the data provided by some vital signs sensors. If one or more parameters provided by sensors are out of range, the system sends images and the values of the parameters to the collector module by means of a ZigBee module connected to the acquisition node. We find that the bandwidth provided by the ZigBee/IEEE 802.15.4 technology may be enough for our purpose due to the computational power of the BeagleBoard platform which can optimize the amount of data sent by the wireless connection.
